Month of Avery - Day 2

Avery surprised us all with her will to live, she bounced back with a quickness. She was born on February 24th, which was a Tuesday, Brad and I left the hospital on Thursday, and she was home with us on Saturday, not too bad considering when we left on Thursday, the neonatologist had prepared us for her to stay for at least another week. Boy, he sure did underestimate the strength of that little girl...and for that we are forever grateful. And another thing we are grateful for, is that a new neonatologist joined Avery's care team on that Friday morning and took a more aggressive approach, which turned out to be pivotal on her road to recovery.

If you will notice the blanket that is wrapped around the "cuddler" as I like to call it, our friends Stew & Rita gave Avery that blanket, and she uses it today in her crib at home.

She is a bit orange in the above picture, her billirubin counts were pretty high at this point, but luckily her body took care of that on its own, and you will also notice red marks on her face, that is from the tape they used to hold her feeding tube in place, the poor thing had super sensitive skin, and still does to this day...

Here she is on Saturday, just about 1:30pm, she had just arrived home in this photo, and was anxiously waiting for her Big Sister to wake up from her nap. Olivia didn't have the chance to meet Avery in the NICU, so this would be their big "Meet & Greet".

And here she is, in her "Going Home" outfit, man oh man, it felt great to leave the hospital with this big bundle of joy...and now it feels like she has been here all along...
